Date Added: 16th Jan 2017
Site Type: Ancient Cross
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 7th Aug 2016. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 5

St Buryan (Village) submitted by enkidu41 on 16th Nov 2004. It is possible that this cross may have been adopted as a Market Cross when the parish of St. Buryan was granted a market charter in 1302. The platform is certainly at a focal point of the village.

Boskenna Cross submitted by enkidu41 on 15th Nov 2004. The shot shows the principal face of the cross with its depiction of Christ.
The three-part base is out of all proportion to the cross. The look of stability is deceptive given its three damaging brushed with modern traffic!

Hill o'Many Stanes submitted by DrewParsons on 14th Oct 2010. Hill o'Many Stanes on a sunny day in September 2010. It had been described to me as a mini Carnac so I was somewhat underwhelmed by it. With less expectations it would make a nice detour to see.

This the third highest hill fort surrounds the bare granite rock outcrop of the most easterly of the Bennachie summits. Although not the highest point of the Bennachie massif it is the most prominent.
The site was occupied between 1000BC and 1000AD with at least two sets of defences.
The main defence, formed by a well-built stone wall running from N to SE about 30 m below the summit of the outcrop, is clearly marked.
In places, the wall-faces and traces of a...
