Mither Tap submitted by cosmic on 28th Dec 2003. Mither Tap at NJ 682 224
This the third highest hill fort surrounds the bare granite rock outcrop of the most easterly of the Bennachie summits. Although not the highest point of the Bennachie massif it is the most prominent.
The site was occupied between 1000BC and 1000AD with at least two sets of defences.
The main defence, formed by a well-built stone wall running from N to SE about 30 m below the summit of the outcrop, is clearly marked.
In places, the wall-faces and traces of a...

Country: Scotland (Caithness)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 4
Hill o'Many Stanes submitted by DrewParsons on 14th Oct 2010. Hill o'Many Stanes on a sunny day in September 2010. It had been described to me as a mini Carnac so I was somewhat underwhelmed by it. With less expectations it would make a nice detour to see.

Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 7th Aug 2016. My rating: Ambience 3 Access 5

Boskenna Cross submitted by enkidu41 on 15th Nov 2004. The shot shows the principal face of the cross with its depiction of Christ.
The three-part base is out of all proportion to the cross. The look of stability is deceptive given its three damaging brushed with modern traffic!

Visited: Yes on 7th Aug 2016. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 5

St Buryan (Village) submitted by enkidu41 on 16th Nov 2004. It is possible that this cross may have been adopted as a Market Cross when the parish of St. Buryan was granted a market charter in 1302. The platform is certainly at a focal point of the village.

Bronkham Hill
Date Added: 16th Jan 2017
Site Type: Barrow Cemetery
Country: England (Dorset)
Visited: Yes on 1st Aug 2013
Bronkham Hill submitted by JimChampion on 29th Dec 2006. A multitude of round barrows on Bronkham Hill. The hill is part of the Dorset ridgeway and the barrows are scattered along the length of the ridge, with an incredible density. It must have been quite a sight when they were gleaming white chalk mounds. They're still quite impressive in this state of decay, covered in grass and blending in with their surroundings. This view is looking northwest, with the tower of the Hardy Monument in the distance.

Kingston Russell 2
Date Added: 16th Jan 2017
Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: England (Dorset)
Visited: Yes on 1st Aug 2013

Kingston Russell 2 submitted by JimChampion on 25th Apr 2005. April 2005. Looking southwest at the low profile of the bank barrow. The earthworks are quite obvious if you're there, but its very difficult to photograph (no contrast, only grass on grass). The taller SE end is visible on the left of the photo and the trees are behind the barrow (along the field's edge) rather than growing on it.

Kingston Russell 1
Date Added: 16th Jan 2017
Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: England (Dorset)
Visited: Yes on 1st Aug 2013

Kingston Russell 1 submitted by JimChampion on 24th Apr 2005. April 2005. Looking west along the remains of this neolithic long barrow, classed by some as a "bank barrow". It is in a sorry state, with an eroded bank cut through in several places by recent tracks and has barely noticeable ditches. The cows have left their usual mark.

Long Bredy Bank Barrow
Date Added: 16th Jan 2017
Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: England (Dorset)
Visited: Saw from a distance on 1st Aug 2013

Long Bredy Bank Barrow submitted by JimChampion on 25th Apr 2005. April 2005. A composite view of the bank barrow, looking south from the field gate (standing on the gatepost to get a better view). The curvature of the appropriately named Long Barrow Hill means that it is difficult to see the barrow from this close distance. The break in the bank is clearly visible, occurring about a third of the way along the barrows 200m length.
