Log Text: amazing views from the top-of Ireland, the Rhinns, Loch Ryan, Ailsa Craig, the hills inland, Arran and Kintyre. A visit to the Rhinns really emphasises that the water linked all these lands as one.

Tormore 2

Tormore 2 submitted by AngieLake on 9th Sep 2008. Going by my sketch on the day, this view is looking towards a gap in the hills to the NE. [Checked this site grid ref on www.danu.co.uk/gallery/info/stones/mosscairn.html. Calling it "Moss Farm Cairn", "grid ref NR 90590 32367", they say that it is: "An excavated cairn circle which lies in a field south of trackway to Machrie Moor just west of Moss Farm." It was definitely between Moss Farm Road Circle and the main Machrie Moor circles.]

Log Text: this looks like it was a sizable cairn originally, east facing facade. It is located on a low hill overlooking the Machrie valley, and intervisible with the possible cursus on the hill to the SW.

Log Text: Three tombs built on a rock outcrop. The earliest opened to north, the second and third to the east. Then it was all made into a large mound. With two tall portals at the east.

There are several quartz stones in and around the edge of the horn of the cairn, and the SW stone of the first chamber is a stone of solid quartz.
The site exuded power and kudos.
nice to see another site that supports the idea that cardinality was important

Tyrebagger

Tyrebagger submitted by Suncircle49 on 15th Aug 2022. Collection of photos of the recumbent 16-21/6/19: Canmore describes Tyrebagger with ‘a fallen recumbent’, but my first impressions, it’s a ‘Dolmen’. The recumbent and its flanker’s are very different to any existing RSC in Aberdeenshire. Its alternative name DYCE which is very similar to DYSSE meaning ‘Dolmen’. A recumbent on stone mounts…. a Dolmen?

Log Text: a prominent position on the hill with a superb views over the islands, and it lines up with the Setter stone and Mill loch cairn down the hill. it was very damp and there was a fine mist or dust in the chambers. The corbelled side cells are quite large compared to Wideford and Cuween. One side cell had water in.

West Tump

West Tump submitted by drolaf on 27th Jan 2017. West Tump (Cranham) long barrow is about 60 metres long, and faces east. It lies in quiet mixed and beech woodland, so is in good condition and is not hard to find, up the hill but not on the crest. There is also what might be a ww2 bunker nearby. Trees on the barrow have been felled and brushwood marks the barrow borders, and acts as a barrier to off road bicycles. The barrow's future seems secure.

White Hag

White Hag submitted by nicoladidsbury on 29th Mar 2004. White Hag Hill Stone Circle The circle has eleven stones, and an outlier. It sits on the hillside above an enclosed area containing earth banks, looking very much like an abandoned hillfort, although there is nothing marked on the OS map. Also a fantastic ancient spring called "Kings Well".

Log Text: please do not climb the farmer's stone wall as it is precarious, dangerous and they have enough to do without mending walls all the time. there is a gate just along the way and another gate into the field where the round barrow is.
