The purpose of my visit to Orkney was to recce most of the major sites, but in true megarak spirit, I had to look at or at least photo any 'lesser' monuments I passed. This was one of them.

The tour guide was up to date and covered the neolithic and much later norse visitors and runes. There is a very good article on the passage alignment in the 2023 issue of the Orkney Archaeology review £10.

https://shop.orkneyarchaeologysociety.org.uk/product-category/books/

Their website has lots more info on Maes and Orkney and it is only £15 to join, £10 for pensioners (you get sent the annual review)

Log Text: i got to the car park fairly early so managed to get an hour at the site by myself which was lovely.
a woman turned up and started walking round and round looking very serious and superior.

Then some German tourists turned up, had not researched their visit and flew their drone around high and then right down low over us. Really irritating. I was fairly abrupt to them in a very anglosaxon manner. this amused the walking around woman.

At least ask people if they mind being filmed not just film them without asking. very rude and against drone guidance. It's a CADW listed site so has a no drone policy. I could have brought my drone and got some great shots. it seems it is old fashioned to be polite.

so. mixed feelings on the site. great site. and most visitors are respectful.

Bryn Gwyn Stones submitted by petelovespurple on 24th Apr 2012. I'd been to see Castell Bryn Gwyn, noticed the stones marked on the map, when I got there discovered there was a dig going on, they had found the base of one of the destroyed stones plus stone holes for other stones, I'd have thought there would be more info here...... more photos in a set of the same name on my Flickr photostream

Presaddfed submitted by pab on 25th Sep 2012. Presaddfed, September 2012 Timber support which features in most photos on Portal has now been removed, so the more southerly chamber looks even better. Delightful location - the walk over the field feels more like a procession, with the chambers looking more impressive all the time.
