Log Text: The ends seem very distinct so the two sections do not seem to have ever been joined. The large section seems as it was built, the small section is dismantled. It is about the same width as a modern drystone wall at the base but tapers far less. The smaller section is at a slightly different alignment to the main piece.

It IS visible from local paths.
From the path to the north (Dales high way) through the hills, both sections are on the skyline-very prominent. This might explain the difference in orientation of the two sections.

It is also on the skyline when viewed from near the ring cairn (Lawkland) to its west (probably visible from the cairn before the modern field wall was built).

Black Hill Ring Cairn

Black Hill Ring Cairn submitted by rich32 on 3rd Jun 2005. Black Hill ring cairn, Black Hill, Low Bradley Moor, North Yorks, SE0081447654 This site is hidden under quite thick heather, the only way to spot it is by its banks, which still measure 40cm or so. In this picture the light brown reedy like thing just to the left of centre, is in the centre of the cairn circle. Once at the site, up the hill & to the south east you can see the remains of Black Hill round cairn. Low Bradley long barrow is just to the east over a rise in the landscape.

Black Hill Round Cairn submitted by rich32 on 3rd Jun 2005. Black Hill round cairn, Black Hill, Low Bradley Moor, North Yorks, SE0087147535 This round cairn is 50meters SE of Low Bradley long barrow. It has a diameter of 30meters by 24meters, with a main north-south axis. There are a number of depressions within the cairn, probably a result of stone robbing.

Log Text: A horned cairn with a blind ‘portal’ to the east (see Belas Knap)
The remaining capstone is very large and almost circular. Far more complex than the usual simple single chamber dolmen found locally.
In a stunning location-views to Snowdonia.

It is sturdily fenced off from livestock and on the CADW visit list 10am to 4pm (so no need to ask to visit). I walked up from Conwy Falls café which does a good all day breakfast. A lovely walk on good ground, signposted (diversion).

Log Text: Walked over from below Bryn Bwbach, the valley is amazing. Took a ‘short cut’ at Coetty-maur up to the main path higher up at Y Gym. This path is a bit sploshy but not boggy. The weather was dire grey cold windy wet. I would have liked to stay longer but the wind was just grim.

I counted 26 pointy stones, 2 were next to each other. Seeing it on the hillside is a welcome sight after a long trek.

Barclodiad-y-Gawres (Anglesey) submitted by TimPrevett on 13th Apr 2004. A look at the dolmen, which is the top of the cruciform section, inside Barclodiad. As with many dolmens, the capstone almost seems precariously placed.

Log Text: Enclosed encaged in a mock up like at Newgrange, which is very misleading.
It has guided tours inside at summer weekends you book online. I would rate the guide at 5/10.

The original tomb is quite small, has a similar sized cap on the main chamber as other local chambers. What makes Barclodiad different is its side chambers, and the decorated stones giving a distinct Irish style. No Bronze Age material was found so it seems to be not used later.

Oh, and the passage faces north. Haha.

Log Text: Three tombs built on a rock outcrop. The earliest opened to north, the second and third to the east. Then it was all made into a large mound. With two tall portals at the east.

There are several quartz stones in and around the edge of the horn of the cairn, and the SW stone of the first chamber is a stone of solid quartz.
The site exuded power and kudos.
nice to see another site that supports the idea that cardinality was important

Presaddfed submitted by pab on 25th Sep 2012. Presaddfed, September 2012 Timber support which features in most photos on Portal has now been removed, so the more southerly chamber looks even better. Delightful location - the walk over the field feels more like a procession, with the chambers looking more impressive all the time.

Bryn Gwyn Stones submitted by petelovespurple on 24th Apr 2012.
