Huesby Dolmen

Huesby Dolmen submitted by holger_rix on 27th Nov 2007. The Dolmen of Huesby has been excavated from a Round Barrow not far from the village. The barrow has been used by several generations, and was surrounded by 3 rings of stones. The capstone is not original. The original has been brought to the museum of Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig.

Log Text: The rune stones that stand in the wild around Haithabu are reconstructions. The originals are protected in the Viking Museum in Haithabu. Translated, the text of this one means: "King Sven placed this stone after (in memory of) Skarthe, his follower, who had gone west (England), but now fell near Haithabu."

Tomb No. 1 is located 60m NW of a small way leading out of Schadewohl. There is a small lengthy bush, the place has been used as a dump. And same as the other barrows in the area, the enclosure has two oversized guardian stones in the corners of the south-east end. Unfortunately the NW part of the enclosure is missing.
