Wigford Down 1 submitted by Andy B on 5th Mar 2011. Cairn and Cist. at SX 544 644. On the edge of Wigford Down, about a third of the retaining stone circle still exists and the chamber has all four sides with a displaced capstone.

The cairn at the top of the northern rows is about 9m in diameter, and is surrounded by a lovely ring of 15 stone slabs. It is possible that there is another ring of stones still present within the cairn.
This is the view to the west, looking down the double row.

Log Text: Worth the hike on hottest day ever on Dartmoor at 33 degrees. Went from the Peter Taby end and visited the impresive Langstone and row first. Circle is spectaculars sited but a sad site because of deliberate desecration by the army.

Kerlescan Tertre and menhir submitted by LizH on 31st Oct 2007. This stone stands at the west end of the Kerlescan rows, but to the north of them, at the western end of what was once a tumulus.
The small bear (Barnaby) at the bottom is from Hallbankgate school and is making a tour of pre-historic sites!

Kerloas menhir submitted by thecaptain on 23rd Jun 2006. This is the biggest standing menhir in Europe, if not the world, at nearly 10 metres tall, and has lost the top 2 metres after a lightning strike!
The stone, which is not local and has been brought to this hilltop site from more than 2.5 kilometres away, has been beautifully shaped, and tapers both into the ground, and up to a point.
