Butterdon Hill Row submitted by thecaptain on 6th Aug 2004. The remains of this fantastic row run for nearly 2 kilometres across the moor in a roughly northerly direction from Butterdon Hill.
The row drops off from the ridge at Butterdon Hill barrow and continues towards the top of Piles Hill. At the lowest part of the slopes, the alignment is pretty well defined.
This view is looking south as the row meanders its way across the lower slopes. On the skyline can be seen Butterdon Hill Barrow, at which point the row reaches the top of the ridge and ...

Glasscombe Corner Stone Row submitted by thecaptain on 16th Jul 2004. Glasscombe Corner stone row, Dartmoor, Devon SX661608
Just above Glasscombe Corner can be found the remains of this fine stone row. Unusually, it has its cairn at the lower end, and marches off up the hill for about 150 metres in a south westerly direction.
View here of the cairn and looking up the row. The cairn is fairly small and insignificant, although the remains of what was once possibly a ring of slabs can be seen.

On the top of Piles Hill, to the north of the large summit cairn is a smaller, but more well defined cairn about 15m diameter, which has at some point in time been remodelled into a shelter. It has a reasonably well defined ring of stones around its perimeter.

Collard Tor circle submitted by Catrinm on 15th Sep 2024. Arc of circle ?
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: It's quite difficult to see what's what here - it looks like here could be a genuine circle ( as indicated on the MP map) as a couple of arcs and fallen stones suggest this . It has been said that the two larger erect stones are a gatepost but they seem much too narrow for this. If it is a cairn circle it is very big compared to most on Dartmoor.

Burford Down Stone Row

Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 2nd Nov 2024

Burford Down Stone Row submitted by Tom_Bullock on 9th Jul 2002. The Burford Down stone row, one of the finest in
Dartmoor, shows evidence of recent damage by whatever farmer is running
huge tractors across the fields. S(he) has been driving right through
the rows (perpendicular to them) along several tracks. I saw evidence of
at least 3 stones that had been dislodged and pushed aside by the wheels
of the tractor. I don't know if there is a procedure for reporting such
damage, or even if the farmer is liable for such damage. I have never, in my 12 year...
