Visbek Opfertisch

Visbek Opfertisch submitted by Martin_L on 12th Feb 2009. From the NW. The large capstone on the western chamber part still measures 5m x 3m. It was damaged by blasting attempts. Two pieces of it are fallen into the chamber. Original length was 7m. Staff for scaling reasons measuring 1m.

Log Text: A pleasant and quite well visited site in August. The large tree give a pleasing composition. It is interesting to see how out of scale the previous visitors rendered this site in etchings, certainly portraying a more dramatic tableau than that existing in actuality.

Visbek Brautwagen

Date Added: 25th Sep 2021

Log Text: Situated a two minute walk from a LIDL car park, this site is surprisingly pleasant. Totally surrounded by recent developments, this site is an oasis of trees and vegetation in Achim. 200 m from a wilderness park.

Reckum Huegelgraeberfeld

Reckum Huegelgraeberfeld

Reckum Huegelgraeberfeld submitted by Martin_L on 30th Apr 2010. Part of the barrow cemetery showing one barrow in the foreground, one in the left background. Another one can be seen (with some difficulty) at centers' background. April 2010
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: This is a small wooded area surrounded by active farming. The wood seems to be more and more overgrown these last few years, but the barrows can still be seen within. A very pleasing location, early on a misty morning.

Einen Hügelgräberfeld

Einen Hügelgräberfeld submitted by Martin_L on 6th Mar 2012. Two large barrows at cemeterys' NE edge. This is where the info panel is placed. “Einen Hügelgräberfeld” is a remarkable large bronze- and iron age barrow cemetery still consisting of 50 barrows and several long and low wall-like structures, partly adjacent to some of the bronze age barrows and probably contemporary to them. Barrows' sizes vary from 5m to 20m diameter, and 0,3m to 2m height. Situated in woodland, but partly without larger amounts of undergrowth. The site currently is si...

Log Text: Unfortunately this site was utterly overgrown and impossible to find any actual barrows within... I found the noticeboards, and nothing else amongst the scrub and brambles.

Visbeker Braut

Visbeker Braut submitted by Martin_L on 18th Jan 2011. The SW-side narrow side. It is built of 4 enormous kerbstones, all appr. 3m high. Like at similar sites, the kerbstones at the narrow sides are the largest. The other short side in the NW is partly destroyed, but two large corner stones are still in place. These larger kerbstones at the short sides of long barrows are often called “Wächter” (means: “guard” or “guardian”) in Germany. March 2008

Dolmen du Vern

Dolmen du Vern submitted by Autun on 21st Sep 2021. Site in Bretagne:Finistère (29) France Although out of context, this tomb gate is similar in appearance to others in the region.

Log Text: This site is not actually a dolmen. It is a donated tomb door, now situated at the entrance driveway of a crematorium.

Traonigou alignement de menhirs

Traonigou alignement de menhirs submitted by thecaptain on 25th Jul 2009. The two standing menhirs are about 4 and 5 metres tall, the two fallen ones becoming lost in the undergrowth.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: At the time of visit, only the two vertical stones were visible given the thick greenery. A beautiful site, though for some reason a rope had been strung across the access path.

Allee Couverte De Traonigou

Date Added: 21st Sep 2021

Allee Couverte De Traonigou

Allee Couverte De Traonigou submitted by karolus on 24th Jan 2018. Site in Bretagne:Finistère (29) France

Log Text: Well, this site looks impressive but it is extremely difficult to see. In the middle of a farmers field, there is no way to get a good look other than by climbing a steep and awkward verge. The entranceway for agricultural vehicles is strung with 'keep out' notices, and a wall borders the rest of the field.

Île Melon menhirs

Date Added: 22nd Sep 2021
Site Type: Standing Stones Country: France (Bretagne:Finistère (29))
Visited: Yes on 16th Sep 2021. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 1

Île Melon menhirs

Île Melon menhirs submitted by thecaptain on 25th Jul 2009. There are remains of at least two menhirs to the south of the island. Other larger menhirs were destroyed in the second world war. I would guess an inspection of the rocks on the island would reveal some pieces.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: These stones are rather pleasant, and likely lined up with the large menhir which was once nearby. The stones are host to a range of interesting fauna, as is the island as a hole, with many contrasting exposure niches providing for a patchwork fauna mosaic.

Dolmen de Kerizella

Date Added: 22nd Sep 2021

Dolmen de Kerizella

Dolmen de Kerizella submitted by regina on 29th Sep 2019. Site in Bretagne:Finistère (29) France Dolmen and at least 4 menhirs on a private property, but visible from the road.

Dolmen de la Pointe du Dreff

Date Added: 22nd Sep 2021

Dolmen de Poulliot

Date Added: 22nd Sep 2021
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen Country: France (Bretagne:Finistère (29))
Visited: Yes on 16th Sep 2021. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 4

Dolmen de Poulliot

Dolmen de Poulliot submitted by thecaptain on 25th Jul 2009. Pleasant enough little dolmen sitting in a field of crops about 200 metres from the road.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: I was lucky at the time of visit. The field had been cleared of crops, and the fine dolmen was clearly visible. From the grass, it seems that currently a way is kept crop free to visit the dolmen, even during the growing period. An impressive site.

Saint-Gonvarc'h menhir

Date Added: 22nd Sep 2021
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir) Country: France (Bretagne:Finistère (29))
Visited: Yes on 16th Sep 2021. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 5 Access 2

Saint-Gonvarc'h menhir

Saint-Gonvarc'h menhir submitted by Martin_L on 31st Jan 2009. Menhir Saint-Gonvarc'h (Pierre der Saint Gonvarc'h, Menhir de St-Gonveld) is an impressive 6m tall and slender Menhir. Unfortunately it is situated in a field, so direct access is limited. But even the view from a distance is worth seeing (May 2001).
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: I was whisked past this menhir on a bus some way distant. Even so, this massive stone was still visible above a cropped field. A fantasticly prominent stone.

Fordham Puddingstone

Date Added: 25th Aug 2022
Site Type: Marker Stone Country: England (Essex)
Visited: Yes on 16th Aug 2022. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 3 Access 5

Fordham Puddingstone

Fordham Puddingstone submitted by willowman1 on 17th Jul 2016. The stone now at the side entrance to Rams Farm, Fordham, moved from the farmyard in the 1960's. It measures 110 x 50 x 130cm high and is pure sarsen, with no sign of any pebbles at all - so it should never have been part of Rudge's 'Puddingstone Track'.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: An easily accessed and quite impressive Puddingstone, situated right next to a small road... It is situated outside of the property gates, and can therefore be admired with ease.
