Le Pinacle
Date Added: 11th Jan 2013
Site Type: Rock Outcrop
Country: Channel Islands and Isle of Man (Jersey)
Visited: Yes on 18th Jul 2012

Le Pinacle submitted by Andy B on 18th Jul 2012. Jersey must be one of the most concentrated places in Europe for prehistoric sites - I remember, many years ago - around 1951/2, climbing down to the "Pinacle Rock" with a friend who was the grandson of Herbert John Baal, who was the first archivist of those caves. I made this sketch on the way down.

The local nomads used this alcove as a shelter when it rained and never paid much attention to the paintings. The site is now guarded by the local villagers who view these paintings as both national treasures and tourist attractions.
