Arthur's Seat submitted by Andy B on 28th Aug 2011. Arthur's Seat from Crow Hill. There are a number of tops around Arthur's Seat that are much quieter than the summit proper. This picture is taken from the nearby Crow Hill, which contains remains of an old hill fort. Walkers can be see on Arthur's seat summit to the north. The City of Edinburgh, including the castle, is also visible on this hot and somewhat hazy lunchtime, as is the moon.

Reconstruction drawings showing the different ways Neolithic communities closed their burial sites, at Ascott-under-Wychwood, the chamber was walled up; at Hazleton offerings were made; at Fussell's Lodge the wooden mortuary chamber was burnt and a large barrow constructed; and in West Kennet, people simply stopped placing corpses in the tomb. As I said it is very overgrown although the barrow is very visible through the thorns if you go to have a look. Sunday afternoons probably best.
