Bury Walls

Bury Walls submitted by Andy B on 17th May 2010. The earthworks of Bury Walls hillfort. Almost all the earthworks are tree-covered, the area having been planted with forestry in the 1950s. This makes them rather hard to see in detail. It's possible to walk most of the way around the top of the ramparts, although the track is narrow and overgrown in one or two places. Caiy Stane

Caiy Stane submitted by Andy B on 13th Mar 2010. About 3m high, the Caiy Stane is a broad slab of red sandstone possibly marking a ritual or burial place from Neolithic times. The hilltop where it is sited continued to be used in the Bronze Age, and it may also have been the site of a battle in more recent times, with the stone as a memorial. The reverse face has six, probably prehistoric cup marks, some old graffiti and some more recent spray-painted defacings.
