Petra tou Romiou

Petra tou Romiou submitted by AlexHunger on 22nd May 2007. Aphrodite's Rock. Legendary Birthplace of Aphrodite. She is said to have risen from the foam at this location, reatively close to her temple. A local folktale has it that if you swim around the rock 3 times your lovelife/fertility will improve. In reality, the cult of Aphrodite did enter the Greek psyche via Cyprus as Phoenician traders brought the semitic Ashtarte (Ishtar) from the Middle east wherever they went.
