Earthwork in Henry Co., Indiana. A circular earthwork enclosure about 30 feet in diameter with an earthen ring thrown up on the outside of a circular ditch. The ditch is broken by an entry way sited to align the center of the enclosure with the winter solstice sunrise. The ditch has filled over the years and is less than two feet deep, but was originally about 3 feet deep.

The enclosure is probably of Adena origins and use in both Adena and Hopewell time periods, in the same way the much more substantial Mound State Park sites were used. The age is estimated at around 2000 years old. The site is on the National Registry of Historic Places (designation 12-Hn-16) in 1999 and is listed as "Address Restricted." However, the site is part of a public park immediately situated next to New Castle High School. A granite boulder nearby is marked with a metal plaque describing the site. There are regular city police beat patrols (as well as the nearly constant presence of the public.) For these reasons there appears to be little reason to not list the location.

Surface surveys occurred at the site in 1965 and 1987. The site was mapped in 1995 by Ball State University (McCord and Cochran 1996:27-29). Limited excavations were conducted in 1997 (McCord 1998). The existence of a mound on the central platform was confirmed, and a radiocarbon date of 1790 +/- 40 B.P. (A.D. 160 +/-40) was obtained from the ditch fill. The site is only known surviving isolated enclosure in the region.
