Site WatchI am writing to let you know of developments which will be affecting the sacred stone currently located in the grounds of the Branksome Library in Poole. The library is planning to relocate to another site on Ashley Road, which has no garden. The current site is to be sold and there will be no public right of access.Enquiries as to the "fate" of the stone have so far been unproductive. Property Services are said to be dealing with the matter, but are proving slow and difficult.
The stone was originally discovered in the Sea View part of town and it would be nice to get the stone back there. The stone is not very big, but an important part of our heritage
I'm ([email protected] ), chasing the matter up and have prepared press releases in the event that our enquiries prove fruitless. If you should wish to contact me I would welcome your input. I would be grateful if you did this rather than approach the press yourself directly.
If you wish to approach the council yourself then the Head of Cultural Services is Mr Rowling and the person who is dealing directly with the matter is Mrs Chambers, 01202 262422, who has refered the matter on to property services They are moving, but VERY slowly. Our current aim is to impress upon them that there are a number of people who care what happens to the stone.
The Library is due to move on the 26th of October and the Council relinquishes control of the site soon after that.
Your help is appreciated.
Neil
