Let's start by saying - if you have any interest in folklore or traditional folk practices, then get a copy of this. It's good. How can you ignore an opening paragraph like this?

"What do the oak apple and the maypole have in common? And what does bottom-pinching have to do with either of them?"

Now don't expect a polished, slick production. This is a new magazine, it's being printed on a tight budget and it ain't glossy. But it's honest and solid, and in the words of a current TV advert, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

I decided to review the second issue because it had an article on Lead Mining, which was once a family concern. I never put it down until I'd read it all. By the time you read this I'll have taken out a subscription.

There are articles on seasonal traditions, the Witchmen morris (morris?), a bit of folk history, a lot of (useful!) advertisements for Folk weekends, and a really good set of CD reviews, as well as a diary of events for the up-coming quarter. And it's all well written, unlike some productions I've seen that cost a lot more.

(£9.50 for a year's subscription of four issues)

You can't fault the value for money, and there's no profits being taken, so it's all going into printing and production.
