Country: Netherlands Province: Drenthe Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen

From my friend Hrothgar in the Netherlands: In the past weekend vandals have ruined the prehistoric grave D30 (Exloo) with paint. The grave which is hidden in the forest of Exloo (Drenthe Province) is 70% painted over with all sorts of colours with a paint that can very hardly be removed from the ancient grey stones.

Last year the provicial archaeologist of Drenthe, Wijnand van der Sanden had complained about the ever growing vandalism of prehistoric graves in the province.

The damaging of the Drenth archaeological monuments mainly consists of pushing over, breaking or severely damaging the stones, graffiti and painting swastikas on it.

Also these graves are used as barbeque places. The damage to the graves is according to the archaeologist almost unrepairable.

Greetings,

Do the authorities involved know that battery-operated pinhole-cameras are now available which are relatively inexpensive and easily concealed?

Best of luck on dealing with those responsible for defacing these sites.

Sickening! Why do people do this kind of thing? More swastikas and in Holland which suffered dreadfuly from the Nazis. No doubt someone will justify it by saying that swastikas are ancient sun symbols etc. Yes we know that, but what is the motive for painting them on ancient stones? To give offence and preach racial intolerance.

Possibly, although looking at the picture on the Dutch site the graffiti looks more "New Age" than Nazi.

    A disgrace whatever the case.
