The British Royal Family is one of the most famous royal families all across the world. Much is said about them in the tabloids; right from the way they dress to what they do or say. They have a huge fan following and a lot of people look up to them and take cues from them for various things. When it comes to fashion, whatever the royals wear becomes an instant hit with the crowd. The British Royal Family owns many expensive jewels including a few famous engagement rings which are not just extravagant but also the inspiration for engagement ring trends. Let’s have a look at some of the famous engagement rings owned by the Royal Family.Queen Elizabeth II: The beautiful 3 carat diamond engagement ring which the Queen still wears made headlines in the year 1947 when Prince Philip proposed to her for marriage. Prince Philip's mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, gave her tiara to her son, the diamonds from which were used to make the engagement ring for the Queen. Estimated to be worth £150000, the Queens engagement ring consists of a large round cut diamond flanked on either side by ten smaller diamonds, all of which are set in a platinum metal band. Prince Philip designed the ring himself before proposing to his now wife.
Princess Diana / Duchess Kate: Princess Diana created a stir in royal history by choosing her own engagement ring from a jeweller's catalogue instead of having one custom designed for her. The gorgeous Marguerite ring became the trend following Prince Charles’ proposal to Princess Diana. Later, Prince William proposed to his now wife Kate with the same ring in order to continue his mother’s legacy. Today the ring is estimated be worth more than £500000. It consists of a whopping 12 carat Ceylon sapphire surrounded by a glittering halo of 14 solitaire diamonds. It is one of the most iconic rings in Royal history. Similarly designed sapphire rings are available in the collection of engagement rings Hatton Garden.
Meghan Markle: Prince Harry announced his engagement to actress Meghan Markle by proposing to her with a stunning diamond ring that soon caught the attention of the media and thus began a trend for three stone diamond rings. This remarkable ring has a diamond trilogy pattern which was designed by Prince Harry himself over a period of six months. It has a large cushion cut central diamond with two smaller diamonds on either side set in a contrasting yellow gold band, which makes it a unique piece.
Princess Euginie: Princess Euginie’s engagement ring is said to be inspired by her mother’s ring since both look similar to each other. It is rumoured to have been designed by both Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, her now husband. It consists of a very rare padparadscha sapphire which has a graceful reddish hue and is surrounded by diamonds set in a gold band. Jack Brooksbank proposed to Princess Euginie with this dazzling ring in January 2018 and married her in the same year.Queen Mother/ Duchess Camilla: The magnificent engagement ring with which Prince Charles proposed to Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005 once belonged to the Queen Mother and is a unique family heirloom. The ring consists of a large emerald cut central diamond flanked on either side with baguette diamonds, set in a luxurious platinum band. This vintage style ring has a certain royal air to it and makes for a stunning eye-catching piece.
Most of the rings owned by royals have given rise to trends that continue for a long time. Hatton Garden jewellers have a variety of similar rings which you can choose from for your engagement.
