St Lythans
St Lythans submitted by Edwin Rose : Can anyone help to identify this burial chamber? Basically, a visitor to Norfolk asked what had happened to the cromlech. When we explained that we did not have them in Norfolk, he said that the previous year he had followed an EH sign somewhere between Walsingham and Wells to see a cromlech, and he had photographed his wife standing next to it. He duly sent a copy of this photo to us, and to E... (Vote or comment on this photo)
Basically, a visitor to Norfolk asked what had happened to the cromlech. When we explained that we did not have them in Norfolk, he said that the previous year he had followed an EH sign somewhere between Walsingham and Wells to see a cromlech, and he had photographed his wife standing next to it. He duly sent a copy of the photo to us, and to EH - who were baffled by it and said it must be in some foreign land, but the gentleman said he has never been abroad.

The object in the photo certainly looks like no cromlech I have ever seen, though it is the right shape, extremely large and apparently of some tufa-like stone.

According to legend, the stones go for a drink in a river on Midsummer's Eve. So, perhaps they thought Norfolk would make a nice change that summer?

Damn! I always look at the pictures at the top of the page first, so I hadn't read this bit when I left my comment on the bottom of that section!! At least I got it right! Can get that smug smile off my face now!
