The Megalithic Portal offers the facility to log sites you've visited, and our dedicated contributors have now added almost 55,000 individual entries to our site visit logs! As well as a simple list of places you have visited, you can also record your visit logs in a 'blog' format with images and maps. This added feature should make ancient sites travel blogging easier.

To get started adding a visit log for an ancient site, first find our page for that site. Try the 'Find a Site' menu above. If the site is not yet listed you can add details and photos yourself and get points in our Rewards Scheme. Once on the ‘Find A Site’ page, click on 'I have visited' or 'I would like to visit' at the top right of the page. You can also add sites from any of our gallery pages in the same way. Once you have added a few log entries you can view them as a table or in a blog format. From there just click on 'Edit Visit' on any log you want to update.

Here are some recommended site visit blogs to give you some inspiration to start your own: Anne T, Harald_Platta, SolarMegalith, SumDoood

There is more help to get started with the visit log feature here and if you need any more help please do ask.

As well as adding logs to our site you should make sure you launch a blog to document your experiences and adventures. It is a certainty that many will want to see the sites you have visited. Keep in mind there are many opportunities to do your own research and you are free to speculate on the design, orientation, intervisibility and many mysterious aspects of the sites you have visited.

Creating a visit log with the Megalithic Portal, or indeed starting your own blog has many advantages that we think you will love:

Sharing With Friends - you can easily share your new blog posts with your friends on social media.
Documenting The Experience - Instead of telling friends and family about the sites you have visited (perhaps many times), you can just offer the link and they will see everything you have to say about the visit.
Safely Store Your Travel Experience – When you start your blog you have a safe place to document your travels, your own pages that will always be online and you no longer have to worry about losing data because of technical problems.

We hope you are enjoying the many innovative features of The Megalithic Portal, from our iPhone app to the special perks offered to paid up member accounts. The Site Visit Logs are another new way to create an automatic online presence to collect and record information on the ancient sites you visit.
