t first it looked like two rows of three stones, but not aligned with each other. Then I noticed that the stones were not all in the lines I thought they were, perhaps it was once three rows. 

The spacing of the stones was about 15 metres between them, where the spacing was obviously original.

Interesting how the bracken has not moved in on the stones to make them disappear. They are beautiful shapes.

I think its probably due to the moorland sheep, which use them as scratching posts. These stones are a reasonable size, the smaller ones do get overgrown.
