Description
Dark Age Buildings Gallery. This beautiful meadow in North-Northumberland, was the site of the Anglo-Saxon township, and wooden palace, of Gefrin (Celtic name) or yeavering (Anglo-Saxon mame) Where in 627, the missionary Paulinius converted Northumbrian Warrior King Edwin* and the Angles, from their Germanic Gods (Woden, Thunor, Freya) to Christianity.
*King Edwin became 'Bretwalda' (Old English for, Overlord of British Isles).
From this long-vanished town, the 'new' religion was to spread to the entire North of England and lowland Scotland. The rest is history.....

Placed this in the Dark Age Buildings Gallery - OK, building isn't here any more; it's not a cross, and not prehistoric, but given content, this gallery seemed more fitting than a general landscape or history gallery. Gorgeous location. Cheers.

Thanks a lot Tim. This is a wonderful and atmospheric location, that very few tourists (or locals) know about. I doubt this is taught in schools - but is a major turning point in history/religion, for the Northern England. I hope my enclosed link will give some idea of this.

So far, this image is my favorite, due mainly to the contrasts in colors as the blend from the foreground to background. an exceptional picture!
