Facade of Diocletian's palace facing the sea in Split Croatia. During the Slav invasions, the towns people of Solana fled to the palace about 5 Km away, which proved to be a safer refuge. The different parts of the palace became mediaval living qaurters and churches while most of the fortifications survive.
