Description
Nottingham Hill Hoard

"This hoard of late Bronze Age metalwork was discovered in 1972, on Nottingham Hill, to the North of Cheltenham. With the co-operation of the landowner, Mr David abbot, a small excavation took place, after the first two swords had been ploughed up. This produced the other objects, along with traces of a wooden box.

Nottingham Hill is the largest of the Cotswold hill-forts, but nothing is known for certain about the date of its construction or its function."

Leaf-shaped bronze swords, and above, a hammer- and adze-head.

Taken at Cheltenham Museum.
