I visited this site on May 3 2014 in the company of Dr John Morgans. The walk through this beautiful valley is a treat in itself. The stone comes into view just after a rocky outcrop. My initial impression was that this may well be a site of a demolished "chambered tomb" rather than a single standing stone. The stone is on a raised area and the presence of the stone on the ground close by suggests a larger structure. After visiting the site I read a letter from the 1960s written by a local historian who also suggested that the site may represent a burial chamber. It is well worth visiting. Cwm y Saeson Stones "About one mile due east of the source of the Dulas in Cwm y Saeson and on the bank of the stream south east of the ford by Gwenfron fawr are the first two of the fourteen remembered standing stones in this wild and most interesting valley.Of these monoliths one is erect and the other has within living memory fallen to the north east. The one yet standing is 70 inches out of the ground,60 inches broad on the north and south faces;like its prostrate companion it has no inscription or carving. The fallen stone is 85 inches long by 36 inches broad.Local tradition has it that they mark the spot where "the great battle ended " ".Taken from Inventory of the County of Radnor 1913(p142)
