Description
The Sousse Museum is unfortunately closed until 2009.
It is suposed to house Roman artifacts as well as significant Punic artifacts, some of which come from the local Tophet, or Punic Temple area.
This led t a perhaps quixotic search for the Tophet.
We were guided towards this completely unguarded vacant lot, were inummerable ancients remains in many strata were found. The top most was a Byzantine chapel. As suceeding cultures built on top of each other's sacred sites, this makes me hopeful that I was led to the right area, even if this is a little farfetched.
