Brings back memories of this lovely area in 2001. Had visited quaint McCarthy's Bar in Castletownbere, having read Pete McCarthy's hilarious book while travelling in almost the same route, and sat where the nun is here: https://www.maccarthysbar.com/pete-mccarthy So before heading off around the end of Beara Peninsula, I searched for the stone circle near here, and it was a day just like this.

I don't think it's rained once since then Angie :) McCarthys Bar is a good spot, did you see the samuri sword in the bar? The pub is still run by the McCarthy sisters but before the author Pete McCarthy made the place well known the real history had already been made by their father Dr Aidan MacCarthy. His is a fascinating story of the highest order and covered in detail in the book A Doctors Sword...

Hi Gaelic Laird. Thank you for that link to Dr McCarthy's story. What a hero he was! What amazing experiences he had! I took video footage inside the bar, so will have to turn out the tape. I don't recall seeing the sword, but it may show up on my film. If I ever go back there I'll make a point of looking at it. (Of course, it doesn't rain in Ireland, especially on the west coast, ha!ha!! ;-) )
