Description
This 'Distance Slab' is museum accession no. GLAHM:F.15, and was found at Ferrydyke, Old Kirkpatrick. It is recorded as Canmore ID 43266. The inscription reads: IMP C T AE HADRIANO ANTONINO AUG PIO P P VEX LEG XX V V FEC P IIII CDXI, which translates as "For the Emperor Caesar Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Augustus Pius, Father of his Country, a detachment of the Twentieth Valiant and Victorious Legion built (this) over a distance of 4411 feet". The pose of the figure of Victory is unusual as she usually leans on a globe. This is thought to depict her as a river god, "a reference to the nearby River Clyde".
