Description
Guardian statue, my youngest son, and the Indian Burial Mound.
INDIAN BURIAL MOUND on the right. Also my youngest son Adam standing beside the guardian statue.
In 1883, the Smithsonian Institution excavated the South Charleston WV or Criel Mound. Thirteen skeletons were discovered, most of them in a log tomb at the base of the mound, along with a few grave offerings. The mound was built by the Adena Culture about A.D.1. It is the second largest in the state of West Virginia and the last of many mounds and earthworks that since were found in the Charleston area.
(Thirteen skeletons were found within the tomb, one of which was a giant about 7 feet tall.)
