Description
Boulder pictographs
Once you arrive at the pictograph site high above the Snake River's right bank, there is little doubt why the place was chosen as a place to leave art.
There are some large dark river rounded boulders on a bench with spectacular views in all directions. The centerpiece of the site is a "sombrero" shaped rock with water pockets and smooth water channels carved by the Snake River thousands and thousands of years ago.
The main pictograph panel is on a dark boulder right next to the water pocket rock. Wonderful place to visit, and ponder who made this art (Nez Perce or a people who traveled through here long before the Nez Perce arrived (or both).

My wife and I took a three day road trip to the Snake River canyon area where Washington, Oregon, and Idaho meet. The highlight of the trip was a 9 mile round trip hike up the Rapid River near Riggins, Idaho.
