The Hielanman's Well, or Highlandman’s Well, is located near where people park to climb Dumyat, in fact some folk call the parking area The Highlandman’s Well. The well itself has been filled up, but the stream of water issuing from its small rock wall can still be seen although it may be dry in the late summer.

Springs such as this were frequently considered sacred by the early inhabitants of Scotland. After Christianity arrived many wells were named after saints who were reputed to help heal those who visited the wells. Some have called this well the "Holy Well," but the Holy Well is in fact located 1 km SE behind Broomhill on the Yellowcraig just above Logie Old Kirk. The Hielanman's Well is located in the same vicinity as the Great Stane of Pendreigh and the cairn to its west so was most likely known about and used by those early settlers. Its waters flow into Cocksburn Reservoir which may be seen to the north.

A popular stopping place for Highland drovers, the Hielanman's Well gained its name after the droving trade peaked in the 18th century. Further along the road is the Sheriffmuir Inn a 17th-century drovers’ inn which still offers good food and hospitality.
