Description
Now for the hill fort photos! This view shows the banks to the east of the site, north of where the temple is situated. To right of centre, the triangular metal fencing protects the small entrance to a Roman iron ore mine.
"The temple at Lydney was preceded by Roman iron ore working operations. It is reasonable to assume that both sites [inc Thistleton] have deposits that are particularly rich in iron and would have a pronounced effect on local geo-magnetic fields."
