Description
Monkodonja Cave

Just outside of the northern secondary entrance to the Bronze Age Monkodonja Hillfort, ther is this deep vertical cave.

Archelogists dug out about 15 cubic meters of material to a depth of 50 meters and found the beginnings of a passage towards the center of the Hillfort. It is thought that ceremonies might have taken place in this "underworld." A similar cave in neighbouring Slovenia yielded a veritable treasure trove of artifacts, so there is high hopes of this site yielding more knowledge.
