Description
KE065-078009-

This ogham stone (see KE057-078002-) formerly lay in the chancel of Kilbonane Church (KE057-078001-) and was moved to Coolmagort where it is on display with seven other ogham stones from the nearby souterrain (Macalister 1945, 235, no. 241). It has three lines of ogham inscription; one on an edge, another along a line scratched down along the face of the stone with a smaller line half its length beside it. There is a third inscription on the other edge. The inscription is unclear at the repaired break across the middle. According to Macalister (1903, 175; 1945, 235-7), the main inscription on the face, including the smaller line, is independent of the inscription on the angles. Macalister (ibid.), read the inscription on the face as: NIR*** MN[I]DAGNIESSICONIDDALA AMIT BAIDAGNI. Macalister deciphers the inscription on the dexter angle as: B[AID]AGNI MAQI ADDILONA and on the sinister angle as: NAGUNI MUCO BASIDANI (ibid.).
