The association with "Janefield" refers to Lady Jane, the martyr of Arran's Exiles during the 1550's. This well is quite significantly associated with the burnings of Edinburgh, and would likely demonstrate a monument to her remembrance. The reference to the well being "lost for a time" also reveals that her name has been exiled throughout history as well.
