Both my wife and children decided to walk to this today (1st May 2005) on the way we asked a horse rider if we were going the right way.
He said yes but it would be difficult to get there.
1) The recent rain has turned the fields into bad sinking mud
2) The farmer has his crops growing in the field I need to cross to get to Windmill Hill
3) Difficult to walk to with family.
He recommend the best time to go September onwards as no crops will be planted, but it will still be difficult across the fields.
He did mention however to get a good luck take the Sankey walk to get a good view from the path.
