Re: Cerrig Duon by cerrig on Saturday, 13 March 2010

On this page, which is the page for Cerrig Duon stone circle, are photo's of 3 different sites, all in the same area, separated by about 1.8 klm's. While I believe they are all linked in some way, I think it should be noted that they are different.
On this list is;
Cerrig Duon stone circle. ( most southerly)
Bwllch y Cerrig Duon Barrow( 1.5 klm's North)
Bwllch y Cerrig Duon Cist(1.8 klm's North)
The Barrow and Cist have their own pages too.
The name "Cerrig Duon" means" Black stones". While it is tempting to think that the best known of the monuments, ie the circle, is the owner of this name, it is more likely to come from the area around the Barrow. This is strewn with large Black comglomerate stones, hence the name "Bwllch y Cerrig Duon", or " Pass of the Black stones". Thanks go to Sem for pointing that one out.
