Since I travelled all the way to Barra just to photograph the two stone
rows on the island, I feel compelled to share this site with you. It is
not the most impressive of sites, but it does remind me that Ordnance
Survey is doing us a disfavor by not telling us accurately what is
present at a site shown on their maps. There is a big difference, to me,
between a ‘standing stone’ and a stone row, only one of whose members
are still standing. Since the very idea of a map is to show people what
they are going to find when they arrive at a particular spot, shouldn’t
there be some change to the current way of naming sites? The same can be
said of the use of the term ‘Standing stones’ for a site at which there
is clearly a stone circle, as dilapidated as it appears.

Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
