Round Barrow(s) in Yorkshire (North)

A bronze age round barrow which is predominant within the landscape, it stands at the highest point of the moor and with the ground gradually sloping away in all directions it has good all round views.

The barrow is HERR MONUMENT 29302 which tells us that it is 22m in diameter and 22m high and that it is surmounted by a boundary stone. Not stated but it has also been excavated in the past.

The barrow is Historic England LIST ENTRY 1004987 however as of March 2022 it is still awaiting update and provides no detailed information

The stone on top of the barrow which is grade II listed marks the boundary between the civil parishes of Goathland and Eskdaleside cum Ugglebarnby. It is Historic England LIST ENTRY 1174081 which tells us that it is a roughly tapered monolith,1.3m high and made of gritstone. On its south face is inscribed – Goathland boundary determined at York Assizes 1813.
