Cairn in Yorkshire (North)

Marked on the OS map as a field system , this site was exposed by a moor fire in October 2009. Aerial photographs in the local press revealed at least 20 cairns and its age is estimated at 4500 years.

This Site is basically a field system of Bronze Age / Iron Age date mainly consisting of an enclosure with cairns within and without the enclosure . The photographs that I submitted October 2017 which were taken in May 2015 at the northern end of the enclosure at ground level with a simple point and shoot camera doesn’t really capture its extent. Its best to get an overall view by clicking on the map reference link at the top of the site page . When the Bing OS map opens click on the Ordnance drop down menu located top right. Then select Birds Eye View and when this opens zoom in. This aerial view (2017) gives a really good overall view of the layout.
