Ancient Trackway in Northumberland

A large rock of sandstone,
(A sandstone type is known as Simonside Grit) on the old Cambo Bridle Road, has been carved with a criss cross pattern, enabling a better grip for the cattle while driving them towards Cambo...... An ancient Drovers road, possibly used up until the 1800s.
The road is a hollow way, and has suffered greatly since deforestation higher up the course.
At times it almost becomes a river,
in the early 1980s I remember it being a muddy/sandy path, now it is very difficult walking, with lots of small rocks.
The track carries on up, and skirts the Western flanks of the Simonside Hills.
After this, it possibly passed Coquet Cairn, or Selbys Cove, where the cattle could shelter after the climb.
Then South to cambo only a few miles away.
