We visited this site yesterday and found an archaeologist investigating the stones.
He had just uncovered another stone about a 2 meters to the east (and closer to the lane) of the stone pair which he thought was part of the same structure. He had also found a stone in the village which he thought had been removed. My phone GPS says 51.75368, -2.12040 but it just over the wall on the north side of Hayhedge lane.

The Giant Stones have been tidied up and whilst they are still covered in moss, there are no trees or undergrowth around them. They are easily visible looking N from grid ref SO 918061 on the EW Bisley track i.e. with your back to Battlescombe Farm. Enjoyed the walk from Bisley and a good lunch at the Bear Inn.

Glad you managed to find it - it is quite well camouflaged when viewed from the track - at least we have dispelled two myths i.e that it had been buried/moved

I visited today - just at the moment the stone is extra-ordinarily easy to find with the vegetation quite low -

The pastscape website aerial photo is incorrect and that is where your problems arise - pastscape show the Giants Stone too far W (about 100m too far) -

I have found the best way of a placing a site is to look up http://www.old-maps.co.uk. (see my comments re: Avenis Barrow in Bournes Green 2km SSW) - for this site check out the 1979-1981 1:2500 OS map - it shows perfectly where the stone lies - on that map you will see an equilateral triangle just North of the track passing W to E about 100m N of Battlescombe Farm -

The stone lies in the bottom left hand apex of the triangular field about 5m from the corner (about 3m from the track) - for those who may still have problems one of my photos is taken from the track - mind the barbed wire!

Well I am still looking and I only live about half a mile away from where it is supposed to be.... I look forward to someone pinpointing the location and perhaps even marking it with a post or sign!

I went there again about a month ago and someone had mowed it all off so the site looked great - but I still couldn't find the stones - Gnash! Still, it's a lovely place and I'll keep looking; in the mean time, if anyone could post a detailed location for the actual stones rather than the earthwork... I'd be very grateful!

I went there today (June 17th, 2007) and couldn't find it at all. The triangular [meadow] to the north is completely overgrown with long grass and I couldn't really see anything definite. However, the place does have the feel (as in shape) of some kind of barrow/tomb and I suspect I will have to go back in the winter to find the stones in Hamish's pictures. If anyone can give me a distinct location on the ground for the stones, I would be very grateful. You can drive right up to this site although the lane gets a bit bumpy past Battlescombe Farm.

I think that this stone was buried a few decades ago by a local farmer. I was told this by a member of a local family. The stone used to lie off Water Lane.

It was there in January, when I visited it. I'll post more details and a picture when I've got my head sorted.

The diminutive Giant's Stone is actually two parallel stone slabs standing vertically, six inches apart and rising two feet above the ground. It's the last visible remains of a chambered long barrow which once stood on the site. Standing just a few feet north of Hayhedge Lane, in the undergrowth at the corner of a field, it can be very difficult to find. I entered the field by a metal gate and walked west along the road-side hedge to find it. GPS reading: SO 91783 06122
