Remains of a burial chamber to the south of Wick in South Gloucestershire.

Turn off the A46 to Kingswood and take the third turning to the left to Upper Cheyney. Follow this road to a fork and take a left to Coldharbour Farm. Ask at the farm for permission to go into the field and mind the cows. Well worth a visit.

From 4clydesdale7: A burial chamber lying in pasture NE of Coldharbour Farm off Oldbury Lane in the Village of Wick NE of Bristol. In all 5 stones once part of a Long Barrow can be seen set peacefully in S. Glos. Two stones are upright and stand almost 2m tall. A third of similar size lies prostrate together with more two fragments within the group. Mentioned in Bris. & Glos. Arch. Society Transactions 1960 Vol 79 and on the Pastscape website 204955.

Wick Burial Chamber (Gloucestershire) submitted by TheCaptain : A slightly different view showing the landscape. This is taken from the top of Hanging Hill looking northwest, with northeast Bristol on the left, the village of Wick on the right. I'm not 100% sure, but the burial chamber should be behind the dark trees mid right. On the skyline the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and Forest of Dean

Seems possible that recent damage may have occurred to the smaller fallen stones.

It definitely is there. Unless perhaps it chose to hide itself on your visit!

Went there today - nothing there! What has happened? I have taken photos of this site about 10 years ago so know where it''s supposed to be.

    Hi anon,
Do you mean the stones have been removed from the site? If so could you please take a couple of photographs of where they used to be if you're still nearby.

It is still there, but getting well overgrown and hidden by the tree growing within it. The hedges around the field are now so big that the only place to see it from is the well locked gate. I'll post a couple of pics.

In his superb work Saxon Charters of Gloucestershire (1935) at p206 Dr GB Grundy refers to this site as The Druid Stone and it is thought that the site marked a point on the S. boundary of the 25 hides of Pucklechurch (Pucelancyrcan) mentioned in a charter granted by King Edred in AD950 - the site is also referred to in the OS 1:2500 Maps for 1882;1903 and 1921 as 'The Druidical Stones'
