TheCaptain visited on 3rd Jun 2020 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 3 Access: 4 At the end of a walk along the Severn estuary and all round the old Oldbury Nuclear Powerstation, I walked back to Oldbury-on-Severn right through the Toots camp. Nice roadsign leading to it, and some information boards have now been put up in the village.

4clydesdale7 visited on 4th Jul 2011 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 3 Access: 4 Lots of evidence but Oldbury Village expansion over many many years has encroached on the Fort making it difficult to get a full picture.

An enclosure thought to be of Iron Age date comprising a bank and ditch enclosing 10 acres. It has been much disturbed by building and road construction.

"Excavations have revealed pottery of probable Iron Age date. The ditch also yielded large quantities of medieval pottery. Evidence for iron working was located within the interior and speculation as to whether the camp acted as a trading post with the Forest of Dean. Roman coins and pottery have also been recovered."

Note: Recent two-week excavation dig, led by archaeologists DigVentures and A Forgotten Landscape, a South Gloucestershire Council-funded landscape partnership, is hoping to turn back the hands of time to find out more about the purpose of the hillfort. Little is known about the Iron Age fort, with mysteries and theories around when it was built and why it was built on the low land rather than, as the name suggests, on a hill.
