The White Stone, White muir, is a block of white quartz, 2ft 7ins high, roughly hexagonal in plan, and 12ft in girth. Traditionally it covers a hoard of gold.

Source: Canmore

"A tale is connected with a large block of quartz, known as the White Cow, near the parish church of Marnoch. The story goes that many years ago some local adventurers made up their minds to run the risk of removing the stone to reach the treasure. They did not manage to complete the task that evening, and on returning to resume their labours on the following day, they discovered their excavations filled in and the stone back in its former place. The work was abandoned."
