Braeside
Braeside submitted by LizH : Braeside Orkney I was on a minibus trip round Eday when I insisted on jumping out to take a picture of this; even though it was very misty. The other 6 people stayed firmly on the bus, although this was one of Eday's 'sights'. But despite the mist, I got a nice picture. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Chambered Cairn in Orkney

Additional information submitted by Drew Parsons in September 2010:
Braeside is a stalled cairn first excavated in the 1850's There are 3 pairs of stalls separated by opposing slabs. The line of the passage is offset from the chamber by 10 degrees so that it aligns with the nearby Stone of Setter. This cairn is located along the interesting archaeological trail which starts at the west end of Mill Loch and runs up to Vinquoy Hill and its major cairn.

One of a number of chambered tombs along the Heritage Trail on the isle of Eday, the Braeside Chambered Cairn is a stalled or Orkney-Cromarty type cairn, which, although open, has its inner layout intact. The chamber, aligned north-south, has been exposed by an unrecorded excavation. In the body of the cairn to the north of the main chamber, at the end opposite from the passage, the slight remains of what may have possibly been a second chamber can be detected.
