Burial Chamber in Dorset

On the map as ruined burial chamber, these two megaliths are the remains of a long barrow. The mound is now ploughed out and the plough is running close to these stones, despite their being a scheduled monument. They stand south east of Eggardun hill and can be hidden by growing crops since both are fallen.

Access The remains of the burial chamber are on private land but can be viewed at a distance from the lane (the Roman Road leading west out of Dorchester) if the crops are not too high.

Two Gates (Dorset) submitted by caradoc68 : This is the smaller of the two stones and on the underside they are what look like cup marks or bowl marks the stick out from the normal weathering of the stones.

Two Gates (Dorset) submitted by TimPrevett : ...in fact John is investigating what at first glance seems to be cupmarks (in Dorset? !) which would have faced in to the chamber. This only two weeks after the Ilkley Moor meet where we saw dozens of cupmarks!
