This cairn is probably the most impressive of all the surviving monuments on Mynydd Llangattock. Constructed of Glacial sandstone debris, the evidence of which litters the moors hereabouts in great abundance, stands a 9 feet tall cone shaped mound with an untidy base spreading to 15 feet or more. It is sited on the crest between the sheer 300 feet cliffs of the Llangattock escarpment and the gritstone plateau of Mynydd Llangattock.

The views from here are extensive, taking in the Black mountains to the North and East, and the sweep of the Usk valley as it turns West towards the central Beacons.

Eglwys Faen refers to the cave that is underneath this part of the mountain, one of many that honeycombe these hills. Eglwys Faen means "Stone church".

The above photos and accompanying text may refer to the Mynydd Llangattock Cairn, which Coflein refers to as "A disturbed cairn, 11.9m in diameter and 0.6-1.2m high, capped by a modern cairn".

The Cairn South of Eglwys Faen lies c. 30 m to the NNE.
