Penbedw Park
Penbedw Park submitted by Postman : Coflein says it has five stones and eight trees, and isn't mentioned before the 18th century. But today I could only see four stones and four trees and a stump, perhaps the other trees were carted off for road or wall building. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Penbedw Park Standing Stone
Penbedw Park Standing Stone submitted by Postman : Burl is suspicious of this stone like the circle, but if I were lord of the manor and asked for a standing stone, and got this, I'd want me money back, that's just a stone lump not standing stone., and I wouldn't really want it right next to the track up to the big house where any unobservant toff could crash into it.

Penbedw Park Stone Circle
Penbedw Park Stone Circle submitted by TimPrevett : This stone we thought the most individually interesting of the stones at Penbedw Park. Its knotted and gnarled texture made for fascinating observation, with differing colonies of lichens inhabiting the nooks and crannies. Some of the stone also sounded hollow to a gentle tap from knuckles. Observe the two-tone texture - the lower part of the stone is discoloured and smoother - from sheep ru...

Penbedw Park Stone Circle
Penbedw Park Stone Circle submitted by TimPrevett : The south eastern stone of the four remaining stones at Penbedw Park. Here, we strongly suspected that natural forces were responsible for this damage to the stone; probably frost damage from freezing water within cracks on the stone. There were no obvious impact marks or scratches upon the stone. Permission must be obtained before visiting, as it is on private park land.

Penbedw Park Tumulus
Penbedw Park Tumulus submitted by TimPrevett : The Penbedw Park Tumulus as seen from one of the stones of the circle. It also shows the clear surplanting of trees, to replace stones to complete a sense of the ring. Burl reports on some who were digging the tumulus to see what could be found, and were warned that they would be haunted by the spirits of the dead who dwellt there. Permission must be obtained before visiting, as it is on ...

Penbedw Park Standing Stone
Penbedw Park Standing Stone submitted by TimPrevett : This stone serves as the likely outlier to the Penbedw Park Circle. It is a very large, almost square but rounded sides stone, and is intervisible from the circle, and tumulus. Permission must be obtained before visiting, as it is on private park land. The circle is behind the tree in the centre of the picture.

In searching ahead of an intended visit in the coming months, I actually found this reference online (stoneslist archives) to my last visit with Alastair McIvor some 4 years ago!

"Penbedw Park, near Mold, Clwyd Grid Reference 171679 Date Visited Thursday 25th May 2000 Situated in a field, off the A541 Mold to Trefnant, this circle was out of bounds for us. Just after Hendre, the road bends to the north, and the circle is in a field to the left. There is a layby on the left after the bend, which is the best location to park. Given that a few of the stones have been replaced with trees it is not that easy to see at first. Unfortunately the field was ploughed, and the circle was located right in the middle, we thought it best not to attempt to get any closer. A few stones were visible, but clearly the best view will be gained at close proximity on a winter / early spring day. Had it been later in the day, we may have asked permission, but given that it was 7:15am when we pulled up we may not have received a warm welcome! There is some uncertainty as to its origin, in that some rich estate owner may have had it erected just a few centuries ago, but Burl is not conclusive on the matter, and feels the issue is best left open.
