Mynydd Troed
Mynydd Troed submitted by TheCaptain : Mynydd Troed, Chambered Tomb in Powys, SO161284 The remains of this tomb are nicely positioned at the top of the pass to the west end of Mynydd Troed hill. Remains can be seen of a chamber at the northern end, and there are also several other bits of stone poking through the top of the mound. This is the view north towards Mynydd Troedd. Chambered Tomb in Powys. The remains of this tomb, marked Long Cairn on the map, are nicely positioned at the top of the pass to the west end of Mynydd Troed hill, which the little road goes over between Llangors and the A479. There is parking for about half a dozen cars right at the top of the pass, on the open hillside. The remains of this chambered tomb lie about 100m from the parking place on the northern, gated side of the road, just to the east of the main track up the ridge of the hill.

The mound is probably about 20m by 15m and up to a metre in height, and has been well knocked about. Remains can be seen of a chamber at the northern end, where stones positioned at right angles to each other are clearly visible. There are also several other bits of stone poking through the top of the mound, which are presumably something to do with the tomb as they appear to be positioned on their edges.

The views from here are spectacular, not only with the hills of Mynydd Troedd and Mynydd Llangorse each side of the pass, but also lovely views down Cwm Sorgwm to the southeast, and down over the Usk valley to the southwest, where Llangors Lake can clearly be seen, with its crannog. It makes me wonder whether there was any connection between the two, as the barrow would probably have been on the skyline from Llangors, although it is not on the top of the ridge.

Mynydd Troed
Mynydd Troed submitted by cerrig : Sunrise, Jan 2010. A very misty day. This monument has been given an Ambience of 3, and it is little more than a grassy mound now. But on a good day it's in a location that's hard to beat, the views are a bit special, especially in these conditions. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Mynydd Troed submitted by cerrig : This Summer shot shows the Sorgwm valley (cwm) and Pen Allt Mawr beyond. To the left is Mynydd Troed and to the right is Mynydd Llangorse. Pen Allt Mawr is where the sun rises at the Winter Equinox, as viewed from this mound. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Mynydd Troed
Mynydd Troed submitted by cerrig : This is a summer shot, looking West. In the valley is Llangorse lake, with the Central Beacons beyond. Just right of centre is the Black Mountain, 40 miles away. This Passage Mound is another in The Black Mountains (plural) that have this long distance view. And what a view.

Mynydd Troed
Mynydd Troed submitted by cerrig : Sunrise,Jan 2010. The mist played games with me for 2 hours. These photos didn't come easy. When the sun shone through i was usually on the wrong side of the mound,I'd race around the other side to get some nice warm light and shadow on the Eastern face, just in time to see the mist recover the sun. I'd go back around the Western side to get a shot of the mound without the sun blinding me,and the m...
